This
program information is primarily for production from
rooted liners. Chemical applications listed are suggestions
only. Growers should ALWAYS trial any chemical, at the
label rate, on a small group of plants before applying
to the entire crop.
SOIL: Use a media that is well aerated and has good drainage.
It also needs good water holding capacity. Most peatlite
mixes will work. The media pH should be between 5.7 and
6.8.
TRANSPLANTING: The old soil level should become the new
soil level. Do not plant too deep. Immediately after planting
apply a fungicide drench. (Cleary's 3336/Subdue Maxx, Chipco
26019, or Aliette.)
LIGHT: Keep between 2500fc and 4100fc. If levels exceed
4100fc, shade to reduce light levels. H.I.D. lights will
speed up finish times. Plants require a dark period of
4-6 hours per day.
TEMPERATURE:
Day temperature 70-75° F, Night temperature
must be 68° F. (For every three degree reduction in
night temperature add one grow week for all stages.) Manipulate
temperatures to slow or speed up crop timing. Too much
time at the higher ranges will create an unattractive plant.
HUMIDITY: Keep below 85%. Optimal rand 60-70%.
FERTILIZATION: Nitrogen 150-200 ppm using a 20-10-20 or
similar plus iron chelate at 5-10 ppm and micro nutrients.
PINCH: Liners have been sheared at least once. If you
desire a bushier/dense plant, shear 1/2 inch above the
last pinch. Do not shear until roots have reached the sides
of the pot. It takes approximately 4-7 weeks from pinch
to flower. During certain times of the year a third pinch
may be necessary to improve potted plant foliage density
due to lower light conditions.
SPACING: 4" pots, pot to pot for two to three weeks.
Finish on 6-7" centers. 5" and larger, space
proportionately.
GROWTH
REGULATOR: Bonzi
FUNGICIDE
DRENCH: Recommended every four weeks:
Cleary's 3336 or Chipco 26019 (Note: Add Subdue Maxx to tank mix once every
8 weeks.)
FUNGICIDE
SPRAY: As needed: Chipco 26019 or Aliette
DISEASES:
- Powdery Mildew: Avoid low temperatures and high humidity. Foliage must be dry
before sunset, early application and watering are required.
Pipron, PathGuard 6F or Phyton 27
- Downy Mildew: Avoid low temperatures and high humidity.
Aliette, Dithane-M45, Manzate, Pipron, Subdue and
Manzate 200 (Manzeb), or Subdue and Daconil
- Botrytis:
Avoid low temperatures and high humidity.
Cleary's 3336 or Chipco
INSECTS: The major pests include aphids, spider mites
and western flower thrip. Control aphids with Talstar.
Control mites with Avid, Floramite or Sanmite. Control
thrip with Avid, Conserve, Mavrik or Orthene.
TIMING: Depends on season and finish size, see Crop Planning.
HARDINESS: Zone 4-10.
